CNC Focus Newsletter :: 15 Mar 2005

Hello to all my Friends and Customers,

Yes, I'm back. This is my second incarnation on the web. This site was formerly known as "camtools.com". About 3 years ago I removed the "camtools.com" site and closed all of my Digital Manufacturing Systems (DMS) business accounts in preparation for "full" retirement.

While in "retirement", I tried to learn more about programming for Windows. The result of this effort is a "Windows" programming environment for CNC programmers that I call Visual CamScript (VCS). VCS offers a more powerful, feature rich editor, with line numbering, unlimited Undo/Redo and colored syntax highlighting. A file management capability and an outstanding 3-D graphics capability are totally new features. A totally re-done Tape Punching feature is included, for those that still use punched tape. The Beta version of VCS is now being released and can be downloaded here.

Personal Apt V2.5 Registered Users
Currently, VCS can interface to the modules from Personal Apt V2.6 for processing and postprocessing the Apt program. Registered users of Personal Apt V2.5? may upgrade to V2.6 at no cost.

Non Personal Apt V2.5 Users
If you are not a registered Personal Apt V2.5? user, VCS includes a Basic Apt capability that is equivalent to Personal Apt V1.6 and is upward compatible with most Apt systems. If you are a Registered User of Personal Apt prior to V2.5, you may upgrade to Personal Apt V2.6 at a discounted rate. You may print an order form here.

VCS is 100% free. However, you will be required to obtain a valid Registration Code (also free) to use VCS beyond 30 days from the time of your installation.

This Beta release has been tested on Win 95/98/ME/XP and seems to run without problems. If anyone is running Win 2000 or Win NT and wants to test the VCS installation, I would certainly like to hear your results. I will be most appreciative.

It appears that the toughest job with Windows programming is to find and resolve problems with different versions and configurations. It is therefore, desirable to have test results from as many different users as possible before the full release of the software.

I'm looking forward to renewing contact with a lot of old friends. Please let me hear from you.

Until next time,
Bob Drewry

P.S. Digital Manufacturing Systems (DMS) was always Bob Drewry, dba Digital Manufacturing Systems. The DMS name has been changed to CNC Focus, effective January 1, 2005. This name is more descriptive of the software I develop. Also, I could secure a Web domain name to match.
